Shows Page Updated; What's The Move This Weekend? | House Show Photos Out Now
My friend and I were stoked to see grindcore legends Wormrot awhile back, and hadn’t heard of the other bands slotted on the bill. Viscerot opened and halfway through the first song I was a fan. The drummer Andy had one of the tightest performances I’ve ever seen. Not a single tempo slip or mis-hit, and I’m usually very scrutinizing towards performances. I had positioned myself on the front left side of the stage so I couldn’t hear, but rather feel bassist Chris’s notes pummeling along with the grinding death metal machine that is this band. With the rather elegant and charmingly named Goatslutfuck’s soaring and swooping vocals gently caressing my virgin ears, I was sold.
Now for the fun part. Jerome was playing guitar and had pulled out a technique that I had simply never seen before, said technique being this odd upstroke triplet fuckery that made me and my homie ask him what the fuck he was doing between songs. You’d never be able to tell by his stellar string work that he had been in an absolutely nasty car accident less than 48 hours before. This group has dedication and balls. I love it.
Andy, Jerome and Chris cut their teeth in punk and other assorted genre acts during the 2000’s such as Sinix and Raze Earth. After the latter wooed Chris by bringing his guitar to class in High school, Jerome and Chris eventually linked up and began writing tech-death songs that have made their way into Viscerot’s current catalog. Andy being in other bands at the time prohibited him from joining the band at its earliest stages, but fate would push him in the right direction before long. In 2022 all three found themselves in the cauldron of a sweaty garage that is the holy rite of passage to every band in existence. Riffs gurgled and broiled, festering into the tracks Bootleg Autopsy and Pazuzu. Noticing Goatslutfuck’s Black Metal shirts at work, drummer Andy did what is usually a nightmare (soundcloud and bandlab *cough cough*) and brought up the idea of making music with his coworker. It very clearly went well.
Bassist Chris has melded his passion for the visual arts and has churned out all of the visceral artwork the band employs, as well as lyrics for songs such as Noose of Innards. With that being said, the band states their art is a truly collaborative organism that flows cohesively and clicked succinctly from the jump.
Notable inspirations of the band include acts such as Carcass (early that is, the rest of their disco is questionable at best) Dead Infection, and General Surgery.
The group has multiple upcoming shows and plans to release their 4th collection very soon. I hope to catch them when I am able to, and I highly recommend you do as well. In the meantime…
Go spin some Viscerot!!
